My career began over 28 years ago when I was walking past an internal posting at Niagara College. I was in my final year of the Hotel and Restaurant Program and decided to apply for this sales role. The job ad was selling for Canada Packers in Bramalea.
Well, I got the job and have been working for Gordon Food Service for over 28 years. I have held many roles within the company. I stared in street sales pounding the pavement. I quickly moved on to team lead role for our call center and then promoted to the manager. This role help me to improve my leadership skills both with internal and external customers. I managed a team of 25 people with many different personality styles and requirements. I then went on maternity leave and had a beautiful daughter who today is 19 and attending Niagara College, she is also working at Gordon Food Service for the summer. My next role, after maternity leave, was managing customer service along with the inside sales team. This added some more learning since inside sales is a bit different than the managing style that is required for a more service oriented team.
I then went on maternity leave again and had another beautiful daughter. Who is now 16 and just got her license. When I came back from maternity leave, my role was training and coaching all our new sales reps to be street ready! I then decided to get back into sales and became a District Manager for Downtown Toronto. I was in this role for 12 years, selling to independent restaurants. I was then promoted to my current position of Regional Account Manager overseeing 15 chains at Gordon Food Service and working with an amazing team.
I am also fortunate to work at Humber, facilitating a leadership course on-line. I have enjoyed all the learning and all the support from the Humber team. I love the food business and love helping develop people I work with.
I was recently the Ambassador for the WFF (Women's Foodservice Forum) from 2015 to 2018 within Gordon Food Service. I lead a team bringing the same resources and values to inspire colleagues at Gordon Food Service. I recently signed onto an internal committee at GFS which is called the wellness team, this is our first year and we have accomplished many goals helping other colleagues with nutrition, awareness and activities.
I find that team work and leading people is something that has been driven into my soul with playing competitive sports. I just love to see teams, whether on the basketball court or in the office, aspire to do something they had no idea they could be or do.
